In June, 2002 I ran across a web site called Surviving
the System. I have been involved with helping addicts and alcoholics
recover. I have known a few people who were in prison. I
had also been charged with a felony and came close to going to prison myself.
I did spend a short while in the county jail. One thing I realized
was that everyone there was poor. If I was not poor I would not have
committed the crime I was there for.
I started researching for a book on prisons and prison conditions. Before
I knew it I was spending 40 hours a week on The Injustice System. I
have done a lot of research using the search engines to find links for my
link pages. I also joined a lot of related groups. A couple
of weeks ago I found The Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition. I was moved
by the medical malpractice of the prison system. In some cases it
seems to be murder of convicts who become ill. It makes me think that
there are those in the system who enjoy making people suffer. They
figure no one will complain because these men and women are criminals who
have been put in prison so society can forget about them.
There are many innocent men and women in prison not because of a crime
they committed but because of a crime they did not commit. For some
reason they were chosen to suffer for a crime someone else committed. They
are sent to prison by the lies and misuse of evidence. The evidence
that can me crafted to make them look guilty is used while the evidence
that shows that they are innocent is left out. The police and prosecutors
can not do it alone. They need the help of the defense lawyers and
in many cases the judges. In most cases it is the good old boy network
at work.
There are also many guilty men and women in prison. There are
those who are basically good people who got caught up with the wrong people
or were desperate to feed there families. There are also basically
bad people who not only belong in prison but also should never get out.
No matter why they are there and no matter how bad they are they all
deserve medical care that will keep them alive and well. Those who are not
well deserve the medication to help them survive and not suffer. Just
as we have bad lawyers who prosecute, judge and defend the inmates but we
have bad doctors who are incompetent or just like to make prisoners suffer.
Maybe these doctors and lawyers get a thrill playing God and ignoring the
ethics of their professions.
Jeff Dicks was a victim of the injustice system. He was killed
by the system of neglect. The sad thing is that many of these so called
professional people and many of the guards who neglect and abuse the convicts
are as bad as or worse than worst of the convicts and should be inmates
themselves. A guard I know of said that the only ones that should
be in prison are the ones that go home at night.
Jeff's story and many other stories are told at the parent organizations
site. Click the link below the banner for the Jeff Dicks Medical Coalition.
If you have any stories about the medical malpractice and abuse e-mail
me. Maybe we can help. At the parent site there are links and
contact information to the chapters in other states and countries. If
your state or country is not there you may want to start a chapter.
There will be many true horror stories about the medical abuse in the
prisons around the country linked to this page. I will be adding
as time goes by and when there are successful resolutions to the abuse
they to will be added.
